Pros and cons of Via — smarter mobility. app for iPhone and iPad

Via — smarter mobility. app good for

Only 5 bucks and you could go to anywhere in the heart of Manhattan. But u can only use it from 9am to 9pm(cant remember the exact time)
Had a great first experience. Was picked up in a spacious SUV by a delightful driver and dropped off at the corner of my requested destination. A taxi normally costs around $20 for the same trip - give or take a few dollars (mostly give when the tip is added). This was $5. I gave the driver a very good tip because the trip was more comfortable, the car cleaner and newer, and the overall experience much better than a taxi.
Tried it today for the first time, and worked smoothly, hope it continues in that way, bravo!
I am from New Jersey have been taking cabs so boys etc. to get where I need to be in New York. Somebody told me about this app I just love it. Cant beat the prices
I ride Via almost everyday to work! It is usually a straight forward and inexpensive ride with quiet and efficient drivers! My biggest problems with them has been the timing of pick up time and actual pick up time and how long the drivers wait! To tell me a pick up is coming in 14 minutes then 5 minutes later the driver has arrived and left is extremely annoying! But complaints usually resolve with a credit for a ride! The other is the insistence in driving a block out of the way of the drop off of the passengers because of potential pick up! Why waste time and gas driving and extra block over when all of your drop offs are on Broadway! Otherwise a reliable and inexpensive service that pays its drivers fairly and cares for its customers requests and concerns! And they go to Brooklyn!!!!!
So far, so good - a great service, no complaints (one time , I queried the wait time and Via immediately gave me a credit and dispatched another car within 2 minutes). Very happy with the service

Some bad moments

The driver was late, did not stop at location the app chose, rather a block down. Then canceled as I was walking down the block to get to him. Huge waste of time, unreliable and unprofessional.
Sometimes the rides are good - but have had a couple experiences where passengers are on their phones. Or well have to wait longer than a minute for a passenger pick up.
The way Via calculates where to pick you up doesnt work well - it made me walk an extra avenue as the cab passed me by. It has repeatedly connected me with drivers who arent even moving or are driving away. They charged me a cancellation fee for those times when I cancelled. The taxes are not incorporated into the price estimate so you cant even tell whether the credits you have will cover the full amount. The credit system in general is also such a petty way of getting people to only use their service. Overall bad experience. Uber is typically cheaper anyways
The idea of the shared ride from JFK is great. I found my new peer as we were messed around by phantom drivers as we watched our screens drop our ride. Customer support has no number only text where they give you the # of drivers who dont respond or text or call. I finally got a driver after an hour and the lady I was with was not allowed on Baird because she all of a sudden was dropped from his ride board. Great idea glitchy system at the cost of freezing. Not grat when one already has a compromised immune system. I hope someone from customer service calls me as the driver claims he has no HQ number. With I had not bought so much on prepaid as I never want to use them again!
What a joke they make you pay for a credit balance then when you try to get a driver from JFK to city it says they are so busy there are no drivers. So I change from within Manhattan and get the same. This is a bit of a scam if you ask me. Speak to BBB
There is no way to report a problem with a driver or the app, which is the most frustrating thing as a customer. After 5 rides they force you to buy credits for future rides or raise your price per ride by 33%. The gps doesnt take into account massive construction projects, which has forced me to twice meet a driver in an unsafe location, and today I waited 15 minutes for a driver that was supposed to be 3 minutes away who couldnt get to me because of construction so he canceled my ride and it bounced to someone significantly further. The drivers have been very professional so I hate to give a negative review to what has been an otherwise great app. The poor customer service intake requires that I post this publicly.
